《泪与笑》是纪伯伦第一批散文诗的合集，也是他写得最美的散文诗集之一。《泪与笑》从一开始就展现了纪伯伦最关心的文学主题：爱与美、大自然、生命哲学、人道主义、社会批判、诗人的使命和孤独等等。可以说《泪与笑》预示了纪伯伦一生的创作方向，也集中反映出纪伯伦的艺术风格发展趋势。《泪与笑》中有许多篇章是直接针对人类社会中的不义和罪恶的，同时也涉及了民族主义和爱国主义的主题，是纪伯伦价值观和人生理想的—次集中展示。
