Este ensayo se plantea una doble pregunta: cómo pensar la sociedad global para conseguir que la Tierra siga siendo un hogar para todos y, de otro lado, cómo pensar en la sociedad global, es decir, de qué modo los cambios en el mundo globalizado afectan e interpelan a la propia actividad de pensar. Para analizar esta relación de ida y vuelta entre la globalización y la filosofía, Antonio Campillo toma como hilo conductor el concepto tierra de nadie, en sus diversos usos y sentidos: la tierra sin dueño, los territorios arrebatados a los pueblos, la tierra disputada, las fronteras amuralladas y, por último, el patrimonio común de la humanidad. El autor propone que nuestro planeta sea reconocido como propiedad de nadie, pero patrimonio de todos. En cuanto a la filosofía, para Campillo se trata de una actividad cosmopoliética, pues su tarea consiste en pensar las diferencias y las articulaciones entre las tres grandes esferas de la experiencia humana: el mundo, el nosotros y el yo. En este sentido, es también una tierra de nadie, porque permite conectar entre sí la ciencia, la política y la ética, y porque todos los seres humanos pueden acceder a ella y ejercitarla libremente.
