Esta antología bilingüe de la poesía vasca es hasta la fecha la más, completa en su género. Recoge desde los primeros poemas de la tradición oral mencionados en el siglo XV, y desde los versos del primer libro impreso en 1545, Linguae Vasconum Primitae de Bernat Deixepare, una tradición de cinco siglos, hasta la poesía de las últimas generaciones. Este conjunto de poemas ¿sin ser lo más bellos, como algún antólogo pretendió- representa no de forma exhaustiva, pero sí suficientemente los modos poéticos con los que a través de la palabra y de los siglos el hombre o la mujer vascos abordaron los temas eternos; la naturaleza, la vida en sus infinitas facetas, el amor y la muerte. Es por tanto, un libro básico para todo amante de la literatura europea.
