L'autor situa la comunitat morisca en el context econòmic i demogràfic valencià, i n'analitza les formes de solidaritat nacional i religiosa, i també les bases materials. Finalment, estudia les causes del fracàs de l'evangelització i la repressió, i aprofundeix en la sèrie de decisions que van dur al decret d'expulsió ja a l'inici del segle XVII.
