Este manual de lingüística pretende salir al paso de las exigencias que plantean las titulaciones universitarias en el marco de la integración europea. Las nuevas directrices sobre planes de estudios aconsejan la elaboración de textos que faciliten el trabajo autónomo del estudiante, y que sean capaces de ofrecer simultáneamente enfoques teóricos y aplicados de las disciplinas científicas. En este libro los autores aúnan los contenidos tradicionales de la teoría gramatical con las perspectivas de aplicación que requiere, cada vez más, el mercado de trabajo, añadiendo además a cada capítulo ejercicios y sugerencias de lectura. Como se apunta en el prólogo, el volumen pretende ser «más un libro para leer que para estudiar, y, sobre todo, aspira a ser un libro para motivar». Los aspectos tratados dan cuenta de la naturaleza pluridisciplinar del lenguaje, y han sido desarrollados pensando en asignaturas troncales de los actuales planes de estudio de traducción e interpretación, filología y logopedia, pero también como complemento de otro tipo de módulos optativos de esas mismas titulaciones.
