En el Japón del siglo XVIII, Tsunetomo Yamamoto, un poderoso samurái, creó el Hagakure, un documento que recogía sus pensamientos acerca de los valores y conducta de los samuráis. Durante los siguientes 200 años, el Hagakure circuló secretamente entre los samuráis "despiertos", una elite samurái.
