Poulsen (health economics, U. of Southern Denmark), after discussing the international theoretical and historical development of the form of policy research that examine the short-and long-term social consequences of the application of certain technologies, explains models of innovation and diffusion of technology in economics and sociology. He then treats a case study of the diffusion of laparoscopic technologies in Denmark and presents an economic analysis of diffusion. Finally, he presents policy recommendations for Denmark based on his empirical findings.
