Age-related macular degeneration is the most important cause of visual impairment in the elderly. The non-exudative or dry form progresses slowly, the exudative or wet form rapidly (within weeks or months). Refer a patient with suspected exudative form of the disease without delay for investigations and treatment. Also consider the significance of the disease in the patients' daily life.
