Description

Gewend aan de ontberingen in het hoge noorden weten zij zich moeiteloos aan te passen aan de kille maatschappij in het naoorlogse Nederland, waarin het eigenbelang vooropstaat. De misdadige Charles en de sinistere Niel zijn voor Franklin voorbeelden waaraan hij zich kan spiegelen, met wie hij zich vrolijk snaterend een plaats verovert in de poel des verderfs Den Haag. Uiteindelijk probeert Franklin zich met zijn grote liefde Michelle te ontworstelen aan de kilte die hem altijd omringd heeft. Franklin vertelt het verhaal van een verschoppeling die met zijn grote fantasie, zijn onaangepastheid en ondanks zijn neiging tot zelfdestructie overeind blijft en zich niet door het leven laat ringeloren.
