Son los allegados que protagonizan esta novela dolorosamente bella, que con absoluta naturalidad combina realismo y fantasía gótica. Sí, porque aquí el paisaje del Chile de los años 80 se traslapa con otro, más afiebrado y demencial, donde un vampiro es capaz de anticipar el futuro. Esta historia, especie de novela dentro de la novela, es la que el joven narrador escribe y dibuja en sus noches de insomnio, no sabemos si a modo de evasión de la dura realidad que le ha tocado en suerte o si se trata de una proyección respecto de su propia condición de allegado: la de alguien que vive a expensas del otro y que, al mismo tiempo, lucha por hacerse invisible, por no reflejarse ni hacer ruido, por pasar desapercibido.
