En ella encontrarán las bases necesarias, los fundamentos teóricos y los criterios de soporte aceptados universalmente y, que con el desarrollo de una gran cantidad de ejemplos de casos típicos y la presentación de una serie de problemas propuestos, les permitirá afianzar su aprendizaje y dar solución a problemas específicos. De esta manera, el libro puede ser utilizado como texto guía en cualquier centro de educación superior nacional o extranjero, y como documento de consulta o de referencia en empresas consultoras y oficinas estatales que realicen proyectos viales. El lector encontrará en forma secuencial todos los elementos que permiten definir la concepción tridimensional del diseño geométrico de una carretera. Para tal efecto, el texto, partiendo de la definición de las carreteras y del estudio de rutas y líneas de pendiente, presenta el diseño geométrico horizontal o en planta, el diseño geométrico vertical o rasante y el diseño geométrico transversal o secciones, áreas y volúmenes.
