Después de dictar Cálculo I en las carreras de Matemáticas y Estadística de la Universidad Nacional de Colombia durante varios semestres, consideramos necesario que los estudiantes tuvieran unas notas de clase para este curso. Con ese material de apoyo ellos pueden ir adquiriendo el hábito de la lectura de textos de matemáticas y la disciplina del estudio personal, aspectos muy importantes en su formación como profesionales. Estas notas de clase son el resultado de nuestra experiencia y contienen todos los temas con la profundidad requerida. Creemos que la manera de aprender, no solo en matemáticas sino en todos los campos del conocimiento, es haciendo las cosas uno mismo; aprender es una responsabilidad y un placer personal, y con ese sentido diseñamos las notas de manera que los mismos estudiantes puedan abordar los temas, para luego complementar lo estudiado y aclarar las dudas en clase, con el profesor y sus compañeros. Tratamos de utilizar un lenguaje acorde con nuestro medio y adaptamos la información de los problemas a este.
