La política y la emancipación han sido concebidas por buena parte de la tradición del pensamiento político de manera casi dicotómica o como mutuamente excluyentes. Sin embargo, en contravía con esta concepción tradicional, Miguel Abensour ha sido uno de los autores dentro de la filosofía política contemporánea que más ha insistido en la necesidad de repensar la política y la emancipación para revitalizar la estrecha relación entre estas dos nociones. Como se sugiere a lo largo del libro, la reconceptualización planteada por Abensour puede ser comprendida como una aproximación ontológica o como una ontología política. Desde esta perspectiva, al resaltar la dimensión ontológica de la política a la luz de la acción, del conflicto y de la democracia, pero también de la emancipación a la luz de la utopía, se puede comprender en qué sentido la relación entre política y emancipación es una relación necesaria y constitutiva.
