El análisis arqueobotánico permite conocer el papel que jugaron los recursos vegetales dentro de una sociedad, brindando una mejor aproximación a la dinámica social y económica de un grupo. En todos los sitios arqueológicos, cualquiera sean sus características, es posible la aplicación de análisis arqueobotánicos. La única limitante será la ausencia de restos vegetales.Este trabajo trata de constituir un aporte para una mejor aplicación de los estudios de macrorrestos vegetales, desde su recuperación hasta su análisis e identificación. El objetivo principal de este trabajo es propiciar que paulatinamente los estudios arqueobotánicos sean parte de los proyectos de investigación arqueológicos, y que se incorporen técnicas de muestreo sistemáticas sostenibles durante el trabajo de campo. La aplicación de esta vía analítica a la arqueología generará, con el paso del tiempo, gran interés por las materias primas vegetales y la formación de nuevos recursos humanos en esta disciplina.
