Entonces, ante la desesperación, decide acudir al Astrólogo, en cuya casa conoce a Haffner, el Rufián Melancólico, tratante de blancas que le presta finalmente el dinero. Lo que desconoce Erdosain es que en ese instante formará parte de una sociedad secreta con serias intenciones de cambiar el orden social por medio de una sangrienta revolución.
