Des côtes de la Mauritanie aux rives du Nil, il parcourt six mille kilomètres. Son voyage, marqué par une alternance de chances et de malchances inouïes devient une aventure initiatique au suspens sans cesse renouvelé. L’itinéraire géographique se double d’un cheminement intérieur et conjugue miraculeusement exaltation aventureuse et quête intime. Geoffrey Moorhouse a obtenu le Thomas Cook Travel Book Award en 1984 pour son livre To the Frontier, mais c’est Jusqu’au bout de la peur (1974) qui l’a rendu célèbre des deux côtés de l’Atlantique.
