Anthem is a dystopian fiction novella by Ayn Rand, written in 1937 and first published in 1938 in England. It takes place at some unspecified future date when mankind has entered another dark age. Anthem takes place in a dark, dystopian future. Collectivism and socialist economics have driven mankind to a technological standstill. Rand explores the tension between collectivism and individualism and equates the errors or triumphs of these with socialism and capitalism.
