The House of a Thousand Candles by Meredith Nicholson The House of a Thousand Candles is part adventure/mystery and part romance. The book begins with young Jack Glenarm returning from various exploits in Europe and Africa to read his grandfather's will. In it, he will inherit his grandfather's inheritance, but only if he can stay for a year at the old man's unfinished residence "House of a Thousand Candles" in Annandale, Indiana, with only his grandfather's mysterious valet for company. If she violates the terms of the will, the house will go into the hands of a young woman, hitherto unknown to her, who will also prohibit Jack from marrying if she wants to keep her inheritance. This all sounds very mundane to Jack and he expects to be quite bored in no time. However, shortly after Jack's arrival at Glenarm House, several strange events occur, and he soon finds himself engrossed in the most animated adventure of his life!
