Unusually among Welsh narrow-gauge railways, the 2ft 6in gauge Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway was built to benefit agriculture, not minerals.
The body was sold to the South Tynedale Railway in 1989. Unused there, it was sold to the Welsh Highland Railway in 1997. Mounted on South African wagon bogies it found a new use as a mess car when the WHR was being rebuilt.
