Aggregation-Induced Emission (AIE) is a novel photophysicalphenomenon which offers a new platform for researchers to lookinto the light-emitting processes from luminogen aggregates, fromwhich useful information on structure–property relationshipsmay be collected and mechanistic insights may be gained. Thediscovery of the AIE effect opens a new avenue for the developmentof new luminogen materials in the aggregate or solid state. Byenabling light emission in the practically useful solid state, AIEhas the potential to expand significantly the technologicalapplications of luminescent materials.
