敬外祖：臺灣南部客家美濃之姻親關係與地方社會
By 洪馨蘭? 人類社會經由建立姻親關係來結盟，是普遍存在的人群組織原則，漢人社會也不例外。然而，在一場婚禮正式舉行之前，透過前往二至三代母方娘家祖堂，舉行敬祖儀式以強化姻親連帶，可能是一種特殊的文化表現，此即為盛行於臺灣南部六堆人群之間的婚俗，地方稱「敬外祖」。本書嘗試透過民族誌研究取徑，指出該風俗如何反映出地方社會特殊的族群互動與歷史性。六堆是下淡水溪客方言群於清代形成的一個合力抗外的內聚組織聯合，而本書聚焦描繪的彌濃人則為六堆較晚形成、位於最北端的強大一支。根據過去研究顯示，彌濃人在族群性上表現突出，自我認同強烈，二十世紀中葉以降更締造臺灣菸草種植最大產區的紀錄。經過百年來的「現代化」過程，彌濃社會仍被識別是一個保留許多「傳統」文化的客家莊，而居民們更認為「敬外祖」是其中一個極具族群精神的重要民俗項目。本書即藉由參與觀察彌濃人目前執行敬外祖的過程，思考究竟是哪些地方社會結構對於形成並延續此項風俗有所關連，並詳述實踐之細節與參與者的心理過程，據之探討敬外祖基本結構與強化親屬關係的內在邏輯，以及因之而來的性別氣質強化與構成當代社會運動的社會文法。
